Work permits
The UK Border Agency, an executive agency of the Home Office, is responsible for controlling our borders and managing immigration in the
It is the employer's responsibility to apply for a work permit on the employee's behalf. A work permit is issued for only one employment, normally on a full time basis. It is not transferable to a different job or to a different employer.
There are six separate categories under which work permit applications may be made and full details of these and can be found on the UK Border Agency’s website.
The Business and Commercial (BC) and the Training and Work Experience Scheme (TWES) arrangements are the work permit applications most likely to relate to ACCA employers.
-
Business and Commercial (BC) - The BC arrangements allow employers in this country to recruit people from outside the EEA who are going to be filling a vacancy that may otherwise be filled by a 'resident worker'.
-
Training and Work Experience Scheme (TWES) - The TWES arrangements enable people from outside the EEA to undertake work-based training for a professional or specialist qualification, or a period of work experience.
Further details on these arrangements can be found in the Employing ACCA trainees and members who require work permits document.
Work permit forms
Employers applying for a TWES work permit on behalf of an ACCA trainee or member will also need to complete the ACCA work permit forms and submit these to ACCA for assessment and approval.
For ACCA trainees seeking a letter from ACCA confirming their qualifications and English language ability please contact ACCA Connect.
